In order to transform your life, you first need to transform your mindset and beliefs. This can be a daunting task, but it is possible. With the right tools and guidance, you can rapidly change your mindset and beliefs, and in turn, shift your life. Here’s how:
Pick one area of your life that you want to change. It could be your career, your relationships, your health, or anything else. Once you’ve decided on the area of your life that you want to change, it’s time to start changing your mindset around that area.
Here are some areas you may consider starting out:
- Health/Fitness/Strength
- Wealth/Finances/Money
- Relationships
- Happiness/Fulfillment
Give a score from 1-10 for each of the four areas above. Which one has the lowest score? Start with that one.
Become Aware Of Your Beliefs and Mindset
Start by identifying the thoughts and beliefs that you have about that area of your life. It may surprise you to discover that you may have some beliefs that are not in alignment with your goals.
Be honest with yourself as you write down your thoughts and beliefs about the area of your life that you want to change. After all, you’re the only one who can benefit from this process.
Here are some examples of unhelpful thoughts and beliefs we might have, without even realizing it:
- I’m not good enough for anyone.
- No one will ever want to be with me.
- It’s too hard to make changes
- Health is all about luck
- Exercise is torture
- Healthy food doesn’t taste good
- I’ll never be able to make enough money.
- Rich people are greedy and selfish.
- It’s not possible for me to become wealthy.
Do any of these thoughts or beliefs resonate with you? If so, it might be time to start changing your thoughts and patterns.
Ask yourself if your thoughts and beliefs are serving you or holding you back. If you’re not sure, then trust your “gut feeling” and listen to your heart. Human emotions are very complex and can be difficult to decipher, but more often than not, your heart will guide you in the right direction.
For example, if you want to change your career or earn more money, do you believe that you’re capable and worth the increase in pay? Do you believe that you’re qualified enough? Do you believe that you can become qualified for the desired position? Do you believe that you don’t have what it takes to be successful?
Once you’ve identified the unhelpful thoughts and beliefs, it’s time to start changing them.
Most of our daily life is guided by habitual actions. In fact, most of our actions are on autopilot – we do them without even thinking about it. The good news is that this means we can change our habits, and in turn, change our lives.
To change your habitual actions, you need to become more aware of them. Pay attention to the things you do every day, and see if there is anything that is not in line with how you’d prefer to be living.
It may feel overwhelming at first, however, being aware of our actions is the first step in changing them.
To change our actions, we must change our thoughts and beliefs about those actions.
Using Affirmations
One way to change your thoughts and beliefs, is to start feeding yourself affirmations that match the changes you want to see in that area of your life.
For example, if you want to change your career, start telling yourself things like “I am capable,” “I am qualified,” “I have what it takes.”
Say these affirmations out loud to yourself every day, multiple times a day. The more you say them, the more they will sink in and become part of your belief system.
Of course, it’s important to identify some small actions you can change to get you closer to your goal. Affirmations are a helpful way to remind yourself of the change you’d like to see in your life. However, action is what will actually make the difference. Be brave! What is one tiny step you can take today to start moving in the right direction? Over time, all of those tiny steps can add up to quite a long, fulfilling journey.
Shifting Our Self-Talk
Self-talk is the inner dialogue that we have with ourselves. It’s the voice in our head that tells us what we’re capable of, what we should do, and how we should behave.
Our self-talk plays a major role in influencing our actions. If we tell ourselves that we’re not good enough or that we can’t do something, then we’re likely to believe it and not try. But if we tell ourselves that we’re capable and that we can do anything we set our mind to, then we’re more likely to believe it and try.
Our self-talk also plays a role in shaping our beliefs. If our self-talk is encouraging and self-empowering, then our beliefs around that area will be more helpful. But if our self-talk is constantly telling us that we can’t do something, then our beliefs will match that self-talk.
This is why it’s so important to be aware of the self-talk that we have about important areas in our lives. Many times, our actions are guided by old beliefs that we haven’t examined in a long time. Oftentimes, we develop these beliefs in childhood and somehow got “stuck” with them in adulthood. These beliefs become part of our sub-conscious and as such they guide our daily actions.
Become Aware of Your Beliefs
If you want to change your life for the better, then it’s important to be aware of your beliefs about those areas that you wish to change. When you have helpful self-talk, you start believing in yourself and your abilities, and this will help you achieve your goals and dreams.
Most human actions are habitual. We do the things we do because we’ve done them so many times that they’ve become automatic. This is especially true for our undesirable behaviors and thoughts. We may find ourselves doing things we don’t want to do, and thinking thoughts we don’t want to think, simply because we’ve done them so many times.
This is why it’s so essential to be aware of our unhelpful behaviors and thoughts. If we’re not aware of them, then they’ll continue to drive our actions without us realizing it. But if we become aware of them, then we have a chance to change them.
The first step in changing an undesired behavior or thought is to become aware of it. Once you’re aware of it, you can start working on changing it. This involves replacing the old habit with a new one. The new habit will take time and practice to develop, but eventually, it will become automatic as well.
So don’t give up if changing your habits feels difficult at first. It takes time and effort to change bad habits, but it’s worth it in the end. Remember, you’re worth the effort!
We Become Like the People We Surround Ourselves With
In addition to helpful affirmations, another great way to rapidly transform your mindset is by surrounding yourself with people who have the kind of mindset that you want to have.
If you aren’t sure who those people are, simply look at the kind of life they are leading. Is it the kind of life you’d also like to be living? Have they achieved the goals that you are currently trying to achieve? These are the kind of people you want to pay attention to!
Actions speak far louder than words, so it’s important to look at what people are actually doing rather than just listening to what they say.
There are a lot of people who will give you advice but who themselves aren’t living the kind of life that you want to live.
You want to find mentors, coaches, and friends who have already achieved what you’re trying to do.
If you want to have a successful career, surround yourself with people who are successful in their careers. If you want to be healthy and fit, surround yourself with people who are healthy and fit.
Becoming Like The People Around You
When you surround yourself with people who have the kind of mindset that you want to have, it rubs off on you and helps to rapidly transform your own mindset.
Modern-day science, as well as ancient traditions, tell us that we are influenced by the people we surround ourselves with. Humans are social creatures, after all. We wish to belong and fit in with our social groups. And in order to do that, we often adopt the behaviors, thoughts, and values of those groups.
This is why it’s so important to be selective about the people we spend our time with. If we want to have a certain type of life, then we need to surround ourselves with people whose lives are in alignment with that.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to find a community of like-minded people who are working towards similar goals. There are communities for just about everything these days, so there’s no excuse not to find one that aligns with your goals.
Different places to find communities that match your interests include:
- Online forums or discussion boards
- Facebook groups
- Meetup.com
- Clubs or organizations
- Events
- Classes or workshops
- In-person groups (e.g. at a gym, library, or coffee shop)
This doesn’t mean you need to cut all ties with the people in your life who don’t share your same goals. But it does mean that you should spend more time with the people who do. Who knows, you may start to inspire those around you to make some helpful changes in their own lives as well!
It’s Never Too Late to Transform Your Mindset
